Overseas Chinese Teacher Volunteer

Project Profile

To solve the lack of Chinese language teachers worldwide, the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) established “Overseas Volunteer Chinese Language Teachers Program” in 2006 for trial implementation (Hereinafter referred to as “Overseas Volunteer Program”).

Overseas volunteer program will recruit qualified foreign citizens, overseas Chinese and students aboard volunteering Chinese teaching. It will enhance the world’s understanding of Chinese language and culture. It is helpful to promote the exchange and friendship among China and other countries. These above are the aims of the project.

Hanban takes charge of and administers the abroad volunteering project. It authorizes Education (Culture) Section of Embassy of PRC to instruct the receiving institutions of recruitment, selection, training, employment, contract signing, consulting, fees payment, routine management.

 Basic Qualification of a Volunteer

（1）Those of willing and spirit of cooperation and dedication, in Chinese language teaching;

（2）Bachelor degree or above and standard Mandarin;

（3）Aged between 22 to 60, physical and mental healthy, no criminal record;

（4）Qualified to teach Chinese language teaching in the country(region) or with certain experience and skills in Chinese language teaching;

（5）With communication and cross-cultural communication capacity for living and working in the country.

Fuqing school has been actively looking for a unique development path since it was approved by the Confucius Institute Headquarters(Hanban) in 2009 to co-build the "Confucius Classroom at Fuqing Language and Computer School" in cooperation with Yunnan university. Confucius Classroom at Fuqing Language and Computer School is also faced with "foreign blood transfusion" and "local hematopoiesis" two major problems, the development of Chinese promotion by "foreign blood transfusion" is not a long-term solution. "Local hematopoiesis" is the only way to sustainable development. Since 2009, Fuqing Confucius Classroom has been sending teachers and students to China under the auspices of the Confucius Institute Scholarship, the Chinese Government Scholarship and other scholarships Colleges and universities in China further study, participate in all kinds of Chinese graduate classes, and actively participate in the exchange training organized by the Confucius Institute Headquarters(Hanban) to improve their own professional literacy.

With the unremitting efforts, the results of the "Local Blood Production" program are gratifying. At present, there are 5 native teachers of MTCSOL approved by the headquarters and 27 overseas volunteer teachers, all of which are included in the the management system of the Confucius Institute Headquarters(Hanban) , and the Confucius Institute Headquarters(Hanban) will pay the salary. Among them, 4 have obtained a doctorate (applied linguistics) and 23 have a master's degree.

On November 25, 2019, Confucius Classroom held this year's teacher training.
