17th Chinese Bridge Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students--Myanmar Mandalay Division Preliminary Round Ended

At 9 am on May 26, 2018, the 17th Chinese Bridge Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students hosted by the Confucius Institute Headquarters(Hanban), hosted by the Chinese Consulate General in Mandalay, and co-organized by Fuqing Confucius Classroom in Mandalay, Mandalay, Myanmar The preliminaries were held at Hotel Shwe Pyi Thar. A total of 21 contestants from North Myanmar's Taunggyi, Lashio and Mandalay universities participated in the competition. Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Mandalay, Mandalay Myanmar-China Friendship Association, Mandalay Chamber of Commerce of Chinese Enterprises, Mandalay Major Overseas Chinese Community Chinese Community, Mandalay Major Chinese School, Mandalay University, Mandalay Nearly two hundred people, including leaders and representatives of the University of Foreign Studies, Myanmar Traditional Medical University, Yadapun University, and parents of students, watched the competition and witnessed the wonderful performance of the players. Consul General Yang Sheng of the People ’s Republic of China in Mandalay, Ms. Su Duan, Secretary-General of the Myanmar-China Friendship Association, Mr. Shen Shi’an, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Mandalay, and Li Tao, Chinese Director of the Fuqing Confucius Classroom, Myanmar Associate Professor and Dr. Khin Mi Mi, Director of the Chinese Department of Mandalay University of Foreign Studies, served as judges for the contest.

The theme of this competition is "Chinese as a bridge, a family in the world", which is divided into three parts: written test, speech and talent performance. The players prepared meticulously and were not afraid of challenges. The written test has a wide range of content, including the detection of specific language points such as vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure, as well as the examination of the basic national conditions of Chinese culture, history, current affairs, and geography. During the speech, there were constant surprises. The players spoke clearly, with a standard tone, and combined with their own experiences, they described their indissoluble bond with Chinese. The written test and speech ended on the afternoon of May 25th. Today's talent competitions are displayed on the theme of "Chinese", "Chinese culture" or "China". The players also showed their talents and displayed a variety of talent performances in the form of classical dance, Myanmar folk dance, and Chinese. Song, recitation, calligraphy, Tai Chi and other traditional Chinese bridge competitions also have stunning and refreshing performances of Peking Opera, double reeds, acrobatics and other new performances, which fully demonstrate the love of Chinese culture among college students in Northern Myanmar. Enthusiasm for learning Chinese. Among them, ancient dance, majestic, clean and tidy; Chinese songs, clear voice, moving heart strings; double-reed performance, humorous and amusing; diabolo calligraphy, dynamic and static combination, rigid and soft, combined into one. After the talent display, the top 5 players in the overall ranking continue to work in overtime. The players draw the order of answering questions, watch the videos in sequence, and answer the questions. The video content played in this session is closely related to the current political, military, religious, and cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Myanmar. It is necessary to test the comprehensive knowledge of the players, as well as the players' memory, on-the-spot performance and adaptability ability. After fierce competition, Thee Su Yee Aung (Li Hao) from Mandalay University of Foreign Studies won the preliminaries with superb dance posture, excellent on-the-spot performance and fluent Chinese. In mid-July, she will represent Myanmar to participate in the finals of he 17th Chinese Bridge Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students.
